Milton Community Vegetation and Long Stem Planting Workshop
Bangalay Community Gardens and Growers Inc in conjunction with Milton Landcare will be having free workshops on the correct use of an auger for tree planting followed by a demonstration of the deep planting technique. Milton Landcare will be supplying plants and participants are asked to help plant trees and shrubs as part of Landcare Week 2010.
Come out and enjoy a day in the field with likewise community members who are interested in learning simple and effective planting techniques, saving remnant forest areas, creating a shelterbelt for a biodynamic garden and how to use plants to manage windbreaks.
This will be a hands-on day so bring hat, water bottle, long sleeve shirt and long trousers and gardening gloves.
Light refreshments and lunch will be provided so that points can be discussed.

Spring Creek Event - From Paddock to Paradise

Please join us for a celebration of the beautiful surroundings at Spring Creek, a site that was previously a market garden and a farm that has been restored to a wetland which is a haven for birds and other wildlife.
The day will include guided walks to highlight the birds of the area. Find out about the work that Kiama Council and volunteers undertook to improve the area. Meet other local volunteer groups working in the Kiama area.
Join us to learn about:

• The history of the site
• Implementation of vegetation works
• The importance of volunteer participation
• The significance of habitat and corridors for local fauna

Farm Safety Workshop - Be part of the conversation

You are invited to take part in a research study (discussion) examining “safe farming on small farms”. The object is to assess the nature and scale of farm-related injuries on small farms. This will include gaining an understanding of your knowledge and understanding of safety.
Who and what is a small farmer, in general terms anyone who is not getting their main income from their Farm, but, come along and tells us as it is. We wish to know if safety is of concern, where you get your information from, how do manage any issues but more importantly, what information would you find helpful?
The sort of things we want information about includes the use of equipment and processes that are associated with high risk activities (e.g. quad bikes and tractors) but also contractors, visitors, children etc. All aspects of the study, including results, will be strictly confidential (you will not be identified). This research project aims to assist small scale farmers (including lifestyle and hobby farms) achieve improved safety management on their farms.

PRIVATE NATIVE FORESTRY AWARENESS TRAINING FIELD DAYS

OBJECTIVE: The Department of Industry and Investment, with support from the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, are conducting a series of field days to provide participants with an awareness of the opportunities and regulatory obligations of good private native forestry (PNF) management and operations on their farm.
COST: Free, and lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided. To maximise practical exercise experience, numbers are limited and participants must register to attend a training day. Preferably the number of participants should be a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15.
CONVENOR: Lachlan Rowling, Industry and Investment NSW.
PRESENTERS: Presenters are chosen with industry and forestry knowledge, and a presenter from the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water is used for presentation of the regulatory obligations.
